Aurora

A comic about humanity's conflicting avoidance and appeal to nature

Golven in mijn schoenen was a zine based around the concept of the world being underwater due to the water levels rising. Franka's storytelling is always on specific characters with internal conflicts, but internal conflicts tend to stay cropped up inside a characters' mind. Franka confronts her characters with these hidden problems by introducing an external situation that brings out the internal dillema's and emotions.

Aurora highlights this method of storytelling. Aurora is a girl who lives in an underwater city that is rather small and claustrophobic. Secretly aurora hates this life and wants to get away. Her job as a mechanic gives her an excuse to get out. When an accident forces her to resurface above the water, she finds an island full of nature that has grown on top of floating plastic trash. Here she finally gets the opportunity to leave her trapped life underwater behind and explore her newfound freedom.
